I've been building things my whole life.
I'm Jake, the woodworker behind Dark Form Designworks. I build custom epoxy river tables by hand in Albany, NY, for homes across the Capital Region.
Growing up, I had a little shop of my own and built toy cars to sell at my dad's outdoor furniture store. My dad worked construction for as long as I can remember, and I learned by building around the house with him and tagging along to job sites. Later my brother got into carpentry, building shelves and bookcases, and I picked up a lot from him too.
In 2025 I built my garden out of cedar and enjoyed it so much that I started building and selling wooden boxes. Then a friend got me into epoxy, and my first epoxy table was one I built for him: The Neil. I've built six tables so far, and I'm proud of every one.
I learned epoxy by doing it. I took Blacktail Studio's course on epoxy pours and watched a lot of build videos, but most of what I know came from trial and error at the bench.
Air bubbles are what every epoxy worker dreads. I've seen finished epoxy pieces for sale with bubbles still trapped in them. On my tables there are none, or so few you'd have to hunt for them. I'm a perfectionist, and a table doesn't leave my hands until it's right.
